philstar.com

Launched in 1996, the online portal of The Philippine STAR aims to reach a global market.
Although its ranking is not indicated in Effective Measure, website analytics Alexa ranked philstar.com as the 52nd most visited website in the country as of November 14. Only 55 percent of its visitors come from the Philippines. It also has audience in United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Canada.
STAR president Miguel Belmonte said he never thought the website would be profitable before his brother Kevin joined and operated the online platform as a separate company.
“It’s a little bit for prestige that we were early, we’re one of the first (to have a website) … but it’s just additional expenses,” Miguel said.
Kevin Belmonte is the president and chief executive officer of Philstar Global, which runs the website.
Hastings Holdings, Incorporated, a company under Manuel V. Pangilinan, has 65 percent ownership of Philstar Global. Philstar Daily has 20 percent ownership, while the remaining 15 percent belongs to Azzurra Prime Ventures Holdings, Inc., which is owned by the Belmonte siblings Isaac, Joy, Kevin and Miguel.
Like other online news platforms, the website gets its content from the broadsheet but sometimes produces its own unique content.
